If you’re looking for homes for families, couples, and singles, then look no further.
Social rent homes are let through local authority housing registers – they’re often called choice-based lettings.
We work in partnership with East Lothian Housing Association (ELHA) to advertise all of our available properties through a Digital Lettings Service, These Homes. This gives applicants the choice of what type of property they would like to live in and where they would like to live.
Before you are able to apply for one of our advertised properties, you must be registered with These Homes. To register, all you have to do is go to These Homes and register online.
Social rent homes cost less to rent than private rent homes and they’re for people who’re most in need of support. You can find more details about how we allocate our homes in our allocations policy.
You can sign up for a weekly e-mail which will list any suitable available properties. Adverts run on a 9 day cycle, Tuesday to the following Thursday. To apply for an available property you will need to log into your account, and will need the address of the property and your These Homes registration number. You can apply for as many advertised properties as you wish at one time. You can also apply for an available property by phoning ELHA or visiting their offices.
We allocate homes to those who make best use of the property and have the highest level of need. If you are successful in applying for a property, we will arrange for you to view it. Please do not approach the property or ask the current tenant to let you see inside as this is their home and it could be intimidating for them.
If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, please also contact East Lothian Council directly on 01620 827 827 for advice and assistance.
For more information on how to register please read the Guide to These Homes or click on the Help button which provides frequently asked questions.
If you still need help with registering, completing a form or require a new paper application form, please contact us on 01620 829300.
Mid market rent is a type of affordable housing designed for people on low to middle incomes. Rents for mid market homes are typically lower than private rent, but higher than council or housing association rent.
Mid market rent (MMR) aims to help people who are on low to moderate incomes, and who would otherwise be unable to afford to purchase property in the current market.
To qualify you must meet the income criteria set by the Local Authority. Where the Local Authority hasn’t provided an income criteria this will be set for 2025 at between £26,000 and £58,000 (before tax). If you are making a joint application, income will be calculated as a household.
Our subsidiary, Homes For Life Plus, advertises on the Citylets website – www.citylets.co.uk You can register on the Citylets website to receive alerts for when a property matching your search criteria becomes available. When properties are available, you can complete the application form available on the Mid Market Rent section of this website or through the link on www.citylets.co.uk
